After missing the post season a year ago, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men's hockey team is looking for redemption as it hosts the UBC Thunderbirds in the opening round of the Canada West playoffs this weekend at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
The series kicks off Friday night, with Game 2 Saturday night and, if necessary, Game 3 on Sunday night. All three games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
It's the second time in the last three seasons that the Horns will host the opening round, and the second straight playoff with the T-Birds as an opponent. UBC won their 2006-07 meeting, beating the Horns in three games.
Despite finishing four points ahead of the Thunderbirds, the Horns have had their struggles versus UBC this season. After winning the opening game of the season series at home, 7-2, the Horns lost the final three meetings against the T-Birds.
What has the club confident heading into this series is the fact they'll go into the weekend at full strength.
"Finally the team is back to full health. UBC has always played us tough and it will be a hard-fought weekend," says Pronghorns head coach Greg Gatto. "It's nice to play at home but, it also brings added pressure in playing in front of family and friends."
Tickets for the series are available at the door or by visiting the customer service desk in the 1st Choice Savings Centre.
