A pair of basketball players was named Pronghorn Athletes of the Week after their respective teams closed out the Canada West regular season this past weekend.
Point guard Becky Heninger wrapped up the Horns season with a pair of strong games for the women's program. She helped the Horns to a weekend split against University of Saskatchewan Huskies, giving the Horns their third win over a nationally ranked team this season.
Friday night, Heninger recorded her first double-double for the Horns, picking up 11 points and 11 rebounds in the a 65-61 loss. The next night, in a thrilling 71-70 overtime victory over the Huskies, Heninger netted seven points and grabbed four rebounds.
Senior point guard Allen Kadima, playing his final Canada West games, had a record-setting weekend in picking up the Male Athlete of the Week honour.
Over the two games, Kadima scored 24 points and added 25 assists, helping him establish a new Pronghorn single-season mark for assists with 144. Harpal Manhas set the previous record of 137 during the 1993-94 season.
Friday night, Kadima set a single-game assist mark when he dished out 16 helpers in the Horns' 87-67 win over Saskatchewan. He also scored 13 points and was credited with three rebounds in the win. On Saturday, Kadima scored another 11 points and registered nine more assists in a 102-77 loss.
Kadima led both the Canada West conference and CIS in assists per game this season, averaging 6.55 assists per contest. In only two seasons with the Horns, Kadima moved into the top-10 on the Horns' career assist list with 213 total assists.
