Withdrawal

Students can withdraw from courses after the Extended Drop deadline up to and including the last day of classes in a term or session as specified in the Academic Schedule. A ‘W’ designation is assigned for each course from which a student withdraws (see Academic Regulations, Grading).

Graduate students wishing to withdraw from one or more courses must consult their respective graduate program administrator. Changes to course registration may affect students’ ability to continue in their program or meet graduation requirements.

Failure to withdraw results in the assignment of grades by the instructor for the course(s) in which the student is registered. Students are responsible for ensuring that their request for withdrawal is submitted on the Bridge by the relevant deadline (see Academic Schedule).

a.Course Withdrawal

A graduate student wishing to withdraw from one or more courses in the term, but not all courses, must withdraw on the Bridge by the relevant deadline (see Academic Schedule).

b.Complete Withdrawal

A graduate student wishing to withdraw from all courses in the term must withdraw on the Bridge by the relevant deadline (see Academic Schedule). Students must contact their graduate program administrator prior to withdrawing. If a graduate student withdraws from all of their course registration without first securing approval from the School of Graduate Studies, they will be contacted and may be ineligible to continue with their program.

c.Withdrawal with Cause

Withdrawal with Cause is granted only in the case of serious illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond the control of the student which makes continuation in a course impossible and where an 'Incomplete' designation is not in order. For admitted students, the 'WC' is recorded only upon application to and approval from the School of Graduate Studies. For Open Studies students, the 'WC' is recorded upon only application to and approval from the School of Graduate Studies. A student seeking Withdrawal with Cause from one or more courses must contact the School of Graduate Studies office for review and approval.
