What is New Student Orientation (NSO)?
Starting university means big changes and lots of questions! At NSO, you will have the opportunity to meet other students and peers, tour campus and see the buildings and classrooms where you'll be learning, and to meet your Faculty leadership, instructors and student support teams there to help you along the way. We can't wait to welcome you to ULethbridge!

IDENTITY

In your first year, you will have the opportunity to learn more about who you are as an individual, as a student, and as a member of the ULethbridge community. By exploring and learning the layers of your identity, you will better understand your needs and goals as a student and determine how you will navigate your first year.

Academic Advisors in each Faculty/School are available at workshops and for walk-in and scheduled appointments to assist students with academic regulations, course selection and program planning.

WELLBEING

Many students in their first year will feel a mix of emotions and need to find new ways to cope with this transition. The excitement  of entering university life can be challenged with the fear of loneliness and not making friends. The interest in your program can be coupled with grade anxiety and the fear of failure. There will be highs and lows, so it's important to learn strategies to maintain your health and wellbeing as you take on and succeed at your studies.

The U of L Student Wellness Ambassadors are trained peer listeners who are responsible for planning and hosting regular outreach events for students throughout the academic year.
 
Mentors
Student mentors are uLethbridge students who provide guidance and support to new students as they transition to university life. Who better to answer questions that someone who has lived the same experience?
 
ULSU

ISSC
The Indigenous Student Success Cohort (ISSC) is uniquely designed to help First Nations, Inuit and Métis students who are returning to university after an absence or who may not be able to meet all of the requirements for general admission to the U of L make a smooth transition to university life. 
 
The Navigator Program
Thanks to a generous donation by CIBC, the Navigator Program is built on inclusivity and accessibility, and is driven toward the support and development of disability-confident and inclusive Co-op placements.
Academic Advocacy (ULSU)
The University of Lethbridge General Assembly is your Student Council and they represent all University of Lethbridge students on a campus, city, provincial and federal level.  They are the voice of each student individually and collectively.
 
SEARS
The Student Enrolment and Registrar Services (SEARS) office books some academic and non-academic spaces on campus. 
EDI
The University of Lethbridge recognizes that our success is dependent on how well we include, value and engage a diversity of students, staff, faculty, administrators and alumni to achieve the desired outcomes identified within our Strategic Plan.

COMMUNITY

When you enter university, you are joining a large community of students, faculty (professors, instructors) and staff that will all be a part of your journey. A lot of ULethbridge students just graduated from high school and we know the transition can feel daunting and intimidating. Even transfer students, that have experienced post-secondary before, can feel overwhelmed by the transition to university.

Career Bridge
Career Bridge consists of a powerhouse lineup featuring Co-op, Applied Studies, Career Services and an Experiential Transcript Advisor. Its mandate is to offer exceptional work-integrated learning, experiential learning and career services so that every participating student can benefit from an outstanding academic and professional development experience.
 
International Student Support

Student Success Centre
 At the Student Success Centre, we offer a variety of free services to help you to take charge of your learning, build your academic skills and confidence, and get the most out of your studies.
 
Travel Abroad
There are numerous reasons why you should incorporate a study abroad experience into your degree. International offers individual and group exchanges, courses abroad, and internships.
Academic Advising
Academic Advisors in each Faculty/School are available to assist students with program planning. Advisors are available at workshops, and for walk-in and scheduled appointments. 
 
Library
The University Library exists to advance the scholarly, research and creative endeavors of the University of Lethbridge. It offers instruction programs, services and information resources aimed at cultivating information literacy and independent learning.

 

SYSTEMS & STRUCTURES

There will be new processes, policies and platforms that you will experience and use as a university student. For example, there are platforms you will use to register in a course and to pay student fees. There are also important policies surrounding academic integrity, the student code of conduct, and addressing sexual violence that we encourage students to become familiar with. By understanding the university’s policies and procedures, you will learn when it is important to advocate for your needs and rights as a student.

As of Summer 2020, students have moved from Google G Suite to Microsoft 365.
 
My Experience Transcript
An official record of a student's curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular experiential learning, verified by the University of Lethbridge. It will be used to complement your academic transcript.
 
Bookstore
The bookstore carries all required and optional textbooks, as well as supplies and study aids for each semester. We have a unique selection of general reading books and offer a special order service for any title we do not normally carry. We also carry a large selection of University of Lethbridge clothing, backpacks, and gifts.
 
Yuja 
YuJa is a cloud-based video capture, editing and streaming service that the University has purchased access to for faculty, staff and students. It can be utilized as an integrated tool within Moodle or as a stand-alone product. 
 
Microsoft Teams
Micosoft Teams is supported by IT at the UofL
 
Crowdmark
Crowdmark is an online tool that allows students to submit pictures of handwritten/hand-drawn work.
 
Printing Services
Web based printing application through Follow-You, release your documents at any compatible Ricoh device.
 
Accessible Learning Centre
The Accessible Learning Centre facilitates equitable learning supports in the university environment for students with a wide range of documented disabilities.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
After thorough consultation the committee identified 19 recommendations of immediate and longer-term actions and strategies to advance diversity, equity and meaningful inclusion, especially of individuals from underrepresented groups, at the U of L.

The purpose of this Policy is to support an environment in which members of the University Community can work, live and learn in a climate free from Harassment and Discrimination, and share the responsibility for achieving these goals.

The Library's website provides access to resources and services which are available both on and off campus.
 
Academic Writing Centre
The Academic Writing Centre provides individual consultations to all students at the University of Lethbridge. There is no charge for instruction, and we are happy to assist at all stages of the writing process and levels of proficiency.
 
Tutoring supports
The Student Success Centre offers a number of group tutorials and help centres during the spring and fall semesters to support you in your success! 
ULSU

W2L opportunities
W2L provides work-integrated learning positions in Student Affairs for full-time, domestic undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. The positions pay a competitive hourly rate for five to 10 hours of work per week.

Our International Centre provides support, programs, and resources to all incoming and outgoing international students at the University of Lethbridge.
