The University of Lethbridge Board of Governors, at its December 11, 2014 meeting, approved a motion to discontinue the U of L’s Edmonton Campus, currently located at Concordia University College of Alberta. The exact date of closure is yet to be determined.
All students currently enrolled for study in the U of L’s bachelor of management degree will have the opportunity to complete their requirements, with those students admitted as of January 2015, as the final group.
Earlier today, students, staff and faculty at the Edmonton campus were informed in person and through email of the future closure. Support to these groups will be our first priority as the University develops specific timelines and plans associated with this transition. The University of Lethbridge will continue to communicate with its community as this process unfolds.
As a leader in business education in the province, the U of L Faculty of Management began offering management education nearly two decades ago to meet the unique and underserved needs of post-secondary students in the Edmonton area. In recent years, the provincial government has greatly increased the number of institutions able to offer a bachelor’s level degree in management to this market. The decision to close our Edmonton campus reflects the breadth of options now available to students in Edmonton, whose needs our Edmonton-based Campus Alberta post-secondary partners can effectively meet.
By offering courses on evenings and on weekends, the U of L was able to remove barriers to pursuing an undergraduate management education for many working adults in the Edmonton area. U of L staff and faculty can be proud of the difference these efforts made for our students and their families.
