Safety Tips for the Holidays

Winterize Travel Tips

Check your vehicles’: Tires, battery, belts and hoses, anti-freeze, brakes, heater, defroster and windshield wipers.

Consider having an emergency kit in your vehicle. Consider including the following in the kit: first aid kit, fire extinguisher, blanket, road map and compass, extra clothing and footwear, rags, sand/non-clumping cat litter, flashlight with extra batteries, emergency food, ice scraper and snowbrush, cell phone, candle in a deep tin, waterproof matches, shovel and booster cables.

Posters/Wrapping Paper Doors/Wall Coverage

As a reminder, when decorating your respective areas and doors, please ensure combustibles (e.g. posters, wrapping paper on doors) does not exceed 20 per cent coverage of the wall/door surface as this can contribute to the spread of fire.

Electrical Safety

  • Ensure they are CSA or ULC approved devices, usually identified on a tag attached to the power chord.
  • Try to avoid plugging in too many devices into a single outlet or power bar as it can overload the circuits.
  • Check the cords for frays or exposed wiring and consider replacing any you find.
  • Turn off or unplug lights before you go to bed or leave your home.

Safety Services would like to wish all employees and students a happy and refreshing holiday break and looks forward to seeing you in the new year!
