Any sharp object that is discarded into garbage cans has the potential for injury. To reduce the risk of injury by sharps and sharp objects, the following should be considered for proper disposal:
All sharp items (i.e. broken glass, metal, light bulbs, etc.) should be boxed or bagged separately and labelled so that Caretaking Services, and others, are aware of the hazard. In addition, please notify Caretaking at 403-329-2060 or caretaking@uleth.ca to request removal.
Sharps, such as needles, may also present a biohazard and must be disposed of in appropriate containers. Please contact Safety & Research Compliance Services at safety.services@uleth.ca for disposal.
If you have any questions on proper disposal of items, or require disposal boxes/containers for your lab, please contact Safety & Research Compliance Services at safety.services@uleth.ca.
