The University of Lethbridge conveys its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. David Hughes who passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3 at the age of 88.
Originally from Calgary, Hughes and his wife moved to Lethbridge in 1960 when he received his chartered accountant designation. He became a leader in the canola industry and was also active in many local organizations, including the University of Lethbridge, where he served as Chair of the Board of Governors from 1989 to 1995. In addition, he was the first honoree of the Faculty of Management’s Scholarship Dinner. The University awarded Hughes an honorary degree in 1998. Hughes and his wife, who passed away earlier this year, moved back to Calgary in 2021.

In honour of Hughes, ULethbridge will lower its flags on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
