Call for Artists – Current Students and Alumni

Student Affairs is seeking artists to create artwork for two vinyl murals for the campus R.E.C Room project. One will be installed in the Students' Union (SU) Galileo’s place and the other in Piikani House.  

The competition is open to current students at the University of Lethbridge and alumni who reside in Canada. One artist will be commissioned to provide artwork for each vinyl wrap location but will not be responsible for fabrication and installation. The final murals are intended to remain indefinitely.

Designs should appeal to a post-secondary audience, contain appropriate content, and reflect a few of the following themes:

• Multivitamins for flourishing: interacting, engaging in spiritual activities, playing, learning something new, exercising, and helping others
• Community and Connection
• University/land location, Fauna and Flora
• The REC Room Logo – Please email s.raju@uleth.ca for the PNG file
• A connection between both murals to create a unified look 

Project Budget

The selected artist will receive an artist fee of $4,000.00 CD (Canadian Dollars) for the creation of two murals, one for Piikani House and one for Students' Union.

Project Timeline

Proposal submission deadline: Dec. 6 at 4:30 p.m.

Notification of selected artist: Dec. 13

Final Design Submission: Jan. 3, 2025

Installation: Jan. 2025

Submission Process

Interested artists are asked to submit the following:

• Contact information (including email, phone number and address)
• Letter of Interest (maximum 500 words) that explains your interest in participating in this project and a brief description of your proposed design including:
• Thematic considerations in connection with the idea of human flourishing and its 6 facets: play, learning, spirituality, interaction, exercise, and helping others
• Design content and approach to creating the design (style/media)
• Indication of colour palette
• Copies of sketches or rough drafts of the mural
• Up to five examples of current or past work, with image list
• Artists are required to submit two distinct designs—one for Piikani and one for the Students' Union—within a single package, including the specified mural locations.

All materials must be submitted as PDF files.
