Alberta Innovates Postdoctoral Fellowship Award Opportunity

The Alberta Innovates Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (the “Program”) enhances the ability of Alberta-based post-secondary institutions to recruit and develop health research and innovation talent in areas of strategic priority to the province. Through the Program, the University of Lethbridge acquired funding from Alberta Innovates to be used for Fellowship awards/stipends. The University of Lethbridge is working collaboratively with Alberta Innovates to promote Fellowship opportunities and run institution-level Fellowship competitions.

The Program objectives are to:

  • Cultivate a world-class research and innovation system.
  • Drive the discovery, development and use of innovations that have high potential to improve the health of citizens while creating opportunity for economic diversification in Alberta.
  • Increase the competitiveness of Alberta as a destination for health technology and life sciences talent.

Three types of Fellowships may be offered under the Program: 

  • Alberta Innovates Recruitment Fellowships 

  • Alberta Innovates Postdoctoral Fellowships in Health Innovation (PFHI)

  • Alberta Innovates Enhancement Fellowships

 The projects MUST fit into one of the following priority areas: 

Priority 1
Lab to Market/Impact

  • Advancing health research and technologies with high potential for commercial success and/or real-world impact.

Priority 2
Clinical Research

  • Engagement in clinical research activities, including study design, participant recruitment, data collection and analysis, or integrating research directly into care.

Priority 3
Innovative Care Model Implementations

  • Collaborating with healthcare providers to pilot and scale new care models that improve patient outcomes and system efficiency.

Priority 4
Building Healthier Futures Through Cross Disciplinary Collaboration

  • Leveraging cross-disciplinary frameworks—such as One Health—to advance more integrated and comprehensive solutions to health promotion.
