The program will present some fine examples of the French mélodie repertoire, including settings of Paul Verlaine's poetry by Fauré, exquisite Duparc, and some late Debussy. In contrast, there will be dramatic presentations from French opera composer Massenet's Werther, and from the storytelling masterpiece by Mussorgsky, The Songs and Dances of Death, sung in Russian.

Biographies
Mezzo soprano Kim Erickson has achieved a varied and diverse professional career from her home base in Thunder Bay over many years. Her involvement in the artistic and educational life of her community and region has been extensive. She performs regularly as a vocal soloist with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and in various chamber music ensembles, including recent appearances at Lakehead University’s Lumina Concert series and the 2018 MusCan Annual Conference in Edmonton. She is a lecturer in Lakehead University’s Department of Music, where she is currently teaching voice performance and has taught music theory and musicianship, as well as vocal literature and world music. She has frequently collaborated in drama and dance projects across Canada, including her soundscore for Patricia Ludwick’s ‘Water Over Stones’ (CBC-Vancouver). She spent several years living, studying and creating music in the Netherlands and her work has been performed and broadcast internationally. Her most recent critically acclaimed recording of original song compositions is ‘The Raven’s Wing’ (Route61Music, Rome).

Pianist Heather Morrison held the position of Principal Keyboard of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra for over four decades, and is a lecturer in Lakehead University’s Department of Music where she has taught piano performance, keyboard literature and instrumental ensembles. She also maintains the position of Concert Co-ordinator and Faculty Pianist for the Interprovincial Music Camp held annually in the Muskokas. Chamber music has always been central to her life and she has enjoyed many collaborations with local, national and international artists. She is a founding member of the trio MuSiC in Common with clarinetist Peter Shackleton and hornist Derek Conrod, appearing regularly in concert at the Stratford Festival. Heather is an active clinician and adjudicator, having been engaged by music festivals from Vancouver to Toronto. She is Music Director of the Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship where she also serves as a lay chaplain.
