The Department of Music and Conservatory of Music are excited to announce our own special celebration of the University's 50th anniversary! 50 Years of Music and Music-Making welcomes back many friends, students, and professors to the U of L, Sept. 28 - 30 for a weekend filled with great performances, presentations, master classes, workshops, panel sessions and lots of opportunity to socialize, reconnect, and make new connections.

Keynote Address by Professor Emeritus, Linda Pimentel

Dr. Pimentel was the U of L's professor of Music Education, taught percussion and conducting, and served as Director of Bands until her retirement in 1998.
U of L Singers Reunion Choir
Did you ever sing with the U of L Singers? Join current director, Dr. Janet Youngdahl, along with guest and former director, Dr. George Evelyn in a large scale choral extraveganza! Conducting Workshop with Dr. Gillian McKay
Were you a member of the U of L Wind Orchestra? If so, bring your instrument and join current and alumni Wind Orchestra members as the resident ensemble for this conducting symposium with Dr. Gillian MacKay (BMus '85). As Professor of Music at the University of Toronto, Dr. Gillian MacKay conducts the U of T Wind Ensemble and teaches conducting. After her whirlwind visit last February for the U of L High School Honour Band, we are excited to have Dr. MacKay back at the U of L!

We are offering TWO master classes with Wendy Nielsen (BMus '84, DFA '08), who is now head of voice studies at the University of Toronto after a long and distinguished career as an opera and concert singer.

Faculty Artists and Friends Concert

This gala concert kicks off the Department of Music's Faculty Artists & Friends series and caps off the official events of the symposium weekend. Music Alumni, along with current and former faculty and the Conservatory Childrens' Choir will perform in the first half, while the second will feature the U of L Singers Reunion Choir. Admission for this concert is included in the purchase of a 2 DAY PASS.

Are you curious about where a music degree can take you? Are you interested in stories of how a career develops once university studies are done? You will hear from musicians who have taken a variety of different paths including performer, educator, freelance musician, music therapy, and arts administration.

Hear stories about the history and development of the U of L Music Department and Conservatory of Music, from some of the people who lived it and made it happen! At the end of an intensive but exciting couple of days, kick back and enjoy a chance to socialize at the Coulee Brew (4085 2nd Ave. S) after the Gala Faculty Artists and Friends Concert on Saturday night.
