Speaker: Dr. Caitlin Friesen (BSc '08) (Neuroscience Institute, Georgia State University) 

Title: Of fins and fur: Investigating the drivers of social behavior in animal systems 

Bio: 

Caitlin Friesen, PhD, is a behavioral endocrinologist and postdoctoral researcher at the Neuroscience Institute at Georgia State University. She earned her BSc in Biology from the University of Lethbridge before completing her MSc at McGill University, where she studied the hormonal basis of social behavior, with support from a Sir James Lougheed Award of Distinction and an NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship. She completed her PhD in Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin, where she investigated how neural mechanisms, hormones, and social context shape variation in social behavior, with support from an NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship and a P.E.O. Scholar Award. Her current research focuses on how the vasopressin system and sex differences influence the neural regulation of social behavior. Outside of the lab, she enjoys biking, making art, reading books, watching movies and listening to music.
