The University of Lethbridge is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Terry Moore, a longtime faculty member in the 1970s and 1980s, who passed away Sept. 21, 2024, at the age of 82.
Born in Victoria and rasied in Vancouver, Moore was educated at the University of British Columbia (undergraduate), the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (masters) and the University of Oregon (PhD). He came to the University of Lethbridge in 1970 and worked in anthropology and sociology before developing courses and teaching in the Department of Geography. Moore was also a major factor in helping establish Indigenous studies at ULethbridge and was considered an innovative, attentive and personable educator.
After serving as a faculty member at ULethbridge for 16 years, Moore was appointed Chair of the Alberta Council of Admissions and Transfers in the fall of 1986, a role he held until his retirement in 2001. Throughout his tenure, he consistently prioritized students as the central focus of admissions and transfer decisions.
A full obituary, and opportunity to leave notes of condolence for his family, is available here.
At his request, Terry was cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date. The University will lower its flag in honour of Moore on Monday, Dec. 2.
