From Political Correctness to Cancelation: My Journey from Harvard to the Alberta Human Rights Commission

Focusing on the recent controversy surrounding Harvard University President, Claudine Gay, Collin will describe his experience with political correctness while a student at Harvard and its contemporary expression in the cancel culture phenomenon. Working with various explanations of cancel culture, he will attempt to arrive at a definition of cancellation that confirms its existence while identifying its underlying ideological foundations.
Mr. Collin May is a Calgary lawyer and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Calgary who studied political philosophy, religion and law at Harvard, the Ecole des hautes etudes in Paris and Dalhousie University. Collin worked with the United Nations International Telecommunication Union and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva before practicing law in Alberta. From 2019, he served as a Commissioner of the Alberta Human Rights Commission and was appointed Chief of the Commission in May 2022.
