John Conlon, Baritone, in Recital
Baritone John Conlon, is a graduate of the Master of Opera degree from the University of British Columbia. John has appeared with leading opera companies and symphony orchestras in Canada and Europe, making notable appearances with Vancouver Opera, Calgary Opera, Edmonton Opera, Calgary Concert Opera, Vancouver Concert Opera, and Cowtown Opera. His roles include Marcello in Puccini’s La Bohème, Lescaut in Massenet’s Manon, Danilo in Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow, Eisenstein in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and Michele in Puccini’s Il Tabarro.
In 2010, John appeared with Alberta Ballet in their concept production of Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins singing the role of the Brother. After spending a season as a Calgary Opera Emerging Artist, John returned to both their mainstage and second stage series in 2011/2012 singing roles in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and the world premiere of Arthur Bachmann and Clem Martini’s What Brought Us Here.
In the 2013/2014 season, John made appearances with Cowtown Opera and the Toronto based Opera By Request singing Schaunard and Marcello respectively in Puccini’s La Bohème, and he returned to Calgary Concert Opera singing the title role in Verdi’s Rigoletto to great acclaim.
John will return to Opera By Request in May 2015 singing the role of Miller in Verdi’s Luisa Miller.
