Visual & Art-Based Research: Methods for Community-Engaged Research
Date: Wednesday, March 13
Time: 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Description: Are you curious about incorporating creative elements into your research? This one-hour workshop explores visual and art-based research as a method for facilitating community-engaged research. Drawing on Lauren's experience facilitating art-based focus group sessions with 2SLGBTQIA+ and Mad/Disabled communities in Toronto, this workshop discusses some of the potential advantages and strategies for incorporating creative or art-based practices into your methods. Beginning with an introduction of visual methods, arts-based research, and research-creation, in the second half of the workshop there will be a Q&A where you can ask any questions you might have about art-based research! Come with any ideas you've been working on, projects in progress, or an interest in how you can use art to transform your project!
Bio: Lauren Morris is an interdisciplinary artist-scholar with a B.Sc. in Neuroscience from the University of Lethbridge, and an M.A. in Communication & Culture from Toronto Metropolitan University. Currently they teach in the School of Disability Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University.
