Talking About Teaching: Are Your Students Aware of the Hidden Curriculum?

This event is from the archives of The Notice Board. The event has already taken place and the information contained in this post may no longer be relevant or accurate.

October 26 | 2 - 3:30 p.m. | AH100

The hidden curriculum refers to the unspoken lessons, values and behaviors that students learn through their educational experiences. It encompasses norms, beliefs and social expectations that are not part of the formal curriculum but significantly impact a student's development.

At the next Talking About Teaching event, we will discuss our awareness of the 'hidden curriculum' at ULethbridge and how it can perpetuate social inequalities by providing disparate educational experiences. The hidden curriculum can also create greater academic pressures as students strive to meet all aspects of their courses. Join our discussion moderators: Imarú Baquero (International Centre), Jamie Takahashi (Student Success Centre), and Rebekah Eckert (Academic Writing Program), for a lively discussion that will make you aware of the hidden curriculum as well as possibilities to help students cope with it.
