Music at Noon concert series featuring Viðarneistí
Cathy Wood, clarinet & Victoria Sparks, marimba
March 11 | 12:15 p.m. | University Recital Hall
Free admission, everyone welcome
Viðarneistí invites audiences to experience this fascinating and unusual musical combination, as these warm and personable artists innovate from a variety of styles and genres.
In this program, the duo explores identity, belonging and connecting through their unique instrumentation. The program features primarily Canadian composers, sharing stories and experiences we can all relate to: narratives of struggle and celebration, inspiration drawn from both ancestors and children, and reflections on the places we come from and those we choose to call home. Ultimately, this program speaks to our shared search for a place that feels like home, out in the world and within ourselves.
Accomplished performers, adjudicators and university faculty members Catherine Wood and Victoria Sparks have shared their remarkable blend of Icelandic-Canadian music both nationally and internationally. As Viðarneistí, the two have been featured at events including Clarinfest, an International Clarinet Association event hosted in Belgium, at the Núna Iceland Canada Art Convergence, and for the 100th Anniversary Gala for the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers.
Thank you to Prairie Debut for their collaboration and support in making the performance and visit possible.
