About the Artists

Clarinetist and Music Educator Janine Oye holds a Master of Music in performance from the University of British Columbia where she studied with Ronald de Kant, and a Bachelor of Music in music education from the University of Toronto. She is principal clarinet of the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, is active as a chamber musician and with various ensembles. She has been a private music teacher of clarinet and piano for forty years.

Violinist Peter Visentin has a highly varied career experience.  He has given more than 600 performances in recital, orchestral, and chamber music settings. In his early professional career, he performed with some of the world’s finest baroque performance specialists, making recordings for radio broadcast and retail sales. In his written research, Visentin’s biomechanics of music performance studies, undertaken in collaboration with Dr. Gongbing Shan (Kinesiology), has had a significant influence on the field of musician’s health research and is the most cited research in its area.

Pianist Deanna Oye is Associate Professor and Co-Chair in the Department of Music where she teaches Studio Piano and directs the U of L Collaborative Ensemble, and also teaches with the U of L Conservatory of Music.  She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music where she studied with Dr. Jean Barr, and has given solo and collaborative performances throughout Canada, the U.S., Scotland, Germany, and Japan, with broadcasts on CBC Radio Two and National Public Radio in the U.S.  Deanna is active as an adjudicator, master class clinician and is frequently invited to give career talks to aspiring musicians. She is also passionate about helping her students make connections between music and their other passions and mentoring them to find their own unique niche in the music world.
