Alina Khvatova, violin & Brad Parker, piano
October 29 | 12:15 p.m. | University Recital Hall
Free admission, everyone welcome
This performance will travel through seasons and styles as the set progresses, starting with Beethoven's Spring Sonata, going through summery Vienna with Kreisler and finishing with the spooky contemporary Ghost Rag. A perfect way to reminisce on the length of spring, be surprised at the shortness of summer and feel the present of autumn.
About the artists
Born to a family of pianists in Moscow, Russia, Alina Khvatova was quickly set upon a path of music. Receiving her first violin lessons at a Children's Music School named after F. Chopin she was exposed to choral singing, collaborative pianists and playing in a chamber setting from a young age. At the age of 12, her family moved to Vancouver BC to make a new life for themselves. There she studied under Prof. Robert Rozek and participated in many student orchestra performances from chamber orchestra to opera to pop, often serving as a concertmaster. After finishing her Masters at McGill University she joined the musical community of Lethbridge in 2021 and has been living and creating there ever since.
Canadian pianist, Brad Parker, has performed in Canada, the US, France, Italy, and Haiti. Recent performances include solo recitals in Alberta, South Carolina and California, collaborative performances with FOURtitude Piano Ensemble, Pedro Diaz, Gabriel Goni, and Nancy Stagnitta as well as concertos with the Lethbridge and Charleston Symphonies.
Dr. Parker is on the music faculty at the University of Lethbridge, and previously taught at Charleston Southern University and Erskine College in South Carolina. His passion for musical instruction led him to volunteer for several summers at the North Haiti Music Camp, on the campus of the Christian University of North Haiti.
Brad completed a Masters and DMA in Piano Performance at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, with further graduate studies at the Paris Conservatory. He studied at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario where he earned a Bachelor of Music with Distinction. His principal teachers include Rebecca Penneys, Dr. Heather Dawn Taves, and Jean Koerner.
