Indigenous Awareness Week Opening Ceremony, Mini Powwow and Dance Demonstration

Join Iikaisskini Indigenous Services for the Opening Ceremony to kick-off Indigenous Awareness Week in Science Commons Atrium!

Blessings will be provided by Elder-in-Residence Ninnaisipistoo (Owl Chief), Francis First Charger, along with addresses from President and Vice-Provost, Ikkayiinnii (Fast Buffalo), Dr. Digvir Jayas, and Vice-Provost, Iniskim Indigenous Relations, Iikaisskini (Low Horn), Dr. Leroy Little Bear.

Following a feast to bring people together and encourage building relationships, feel the beat of the drums and immerse yourself in Blackfoot culture with a mini powwow and dance demonstration. After the Grand Entry, there will be a traditional Blackfoot Naming Transfer Ceremony for the Dhillon School of Business, and a special Recognition and Ceremony at 2 p.m.

Schedule:
11 a.m. to noon: Opening ceremony and blessings

Noon to 1 p.m.: Feast

1 to 3 p.m.: Mini Powwow and Dance Demonstration

1 p.m.: Dhillon School of Business Blackfoot Naming Transfer Ceremony

2 p.m.: Special Recognition and Ceremony
