A Scrappy Beginning recounts the events leading up to the establishment of a university in Lethbridge, the involvement of the provincial government, the local Chamber of Commerce, the Lethbridge Junior College and the community, as well as the controversy over the siting of the university and the people central to the story.

This is the first of the four-part Fragments of the University of Lethbridge's History series by Mike Perry (University Archivist, retired). Upcoming engagements include:
