Faculty of Health Sciences Career & Professional Development Chat

Hosted by Megan Hébert, Manager, Graduate Student Engagement, we discuss planning your career and professional experiences to support your career and academic goals.

While it may seem early to start thinking about your goals, Olympians did not start training the day before their competition and you should not wait to get started.

With content specific to our Health Sciences Graduate students, Megan will combine labour market statistics for health sciences related and adjacent positions and a sprinkle in non-discipline specific information to provide a well-rounded overview of career work and how to get started.

By participating in this one and a half hour session, participants can:

  • Discuss the importance of career development, career planning and constructing an intentional context-specific plan
  • Highlight the importance of reflection and building on their strengths, interests and values
  • Explore the use of backward design, SMART goals and labour market data to work through personal goal-setting
  • Explain the value of professional skills, using the example of communication and the importance to career development
