Stuff Exchange: taking a metabolic view toward object making

Ian Dawson has exhibited extensively with solo shows in New York (James Cohan Gallery), London (C&C Gallery) and Paris (Galerie Xippas) and has works in both public and private collections worldwide, including the Chaney Family collection, GossMichael Collection, and Mickey and Janice Cartin Collection. His work is featured in Contemporary British Sculpture (Schiffer Publishing) and Collage, Assembling Contemporary Art, (Black Dog Publishing). He articulated the complex relationship between the artist and the creative act in his book Making Contemporary Sculpture (Crowood Press). Recent exhibitions include: ‘Artist Boss’ New Art Centre, Roche Court, Salisbury, ‘Gestures of Resistance’ Athens and ‘Annihilation Event, London. He is currently exploring new 3D imaging and print technologies, these have been the outcome of an ongoing collaboration with members of the Archaeological Computing Research Group and The Centre for the Archaeology of Human Origins at the University of Southampton.
While on-campus, Ian Dawson (Head of Sculpture at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton), Louisa Minkin (Course Leader MA Fine Art, Central St Martins, London), and Tyler Heaton (MFA Candidate, University of Lethbridge), are facilitating a workshop called: Objects as Curriculum Workshop from January 20 to 22.
