Lara Perry is a Principal Lecturer in History of Art and Design at the University of Brighton, where she researches British art, museums and exhibitions from the 19thC to the present. She completed her PhD at the University of York, which was published as History's Beauties: Women and the National Portrait Gallery, 1856-1900 (2006). Co-editor of Politics in A Glass Case: Feminism, exhibition cultures and curatorial transgressions (2013) and of English Art 1860-1914: Modern Artists and Identity (2000), Lara is currently completing a project on the uses of 'vernacular' portraits in the middle years of the nineteenth century.
