Architecture & Design NOW presents Tim Antoniuk
Vibrancy
6 pm | October 30, 2023
Room L1060, Library (LINC) Building
Free admission, everyone welcome
People seem to intuitively understand and agree that great architecture can create vibrancy in an area – But, is this true? Where do people, community, trust and human connectivity affect the creation of vibrant urban realms? These ideas and many more will be explored in this presentation.
Tim Antoniuk is an Associate Professor and the Coordinator of the Industrial Design Program at the University of Alberta. He is the owner of Architure Inc, a micro space design and research studio, and T3 Developments, a mixed-use multi-family development group. Co-founding Hothouse Design Studio in the early 90s and having worked with international design companies such as Droog, over the last 25+ years Tim’s research and practice has investigated the production of morphing/shape-shifting furniture, products and interior spaces; the creative economy; and the ‘emotional durability’ of places and spaces. In recent years his research and practice has focused on preserving and upgrading historic buildings and urban realms to elevate human connectivity, trust, diversity and local economies. Having recently published a book titled “Situating Design in Alberta” (2022), Professor Antoniuk is exploring new ideas for a book tentatively titled “Vibrancy – Creating meaningful places, spaces, experiences and communities” (2025).
