ARTIFICIAL LIFE SYSTEMS FOR CREATIVITY IN VISUAL ARTS
Daniela Sirbu will be speaking about visual creativity as a process of design and development of computational systems that are capable to autonomously or interactively produce original artwork. Based on an evolutionary computational framework that emulates biological evolution and processes in non-living systems in the real world, the artwork creation through such artificial worlds is explored as an emergent phenomenon in ecosystems that function for aesthetic performance. The concept of adaptive drawing through an artificial life system is further explored based on samples from Daniela’s latest work which will be screened and/or presented as live performance in this context.
Daniela Sirbu is a new media artist and is currently and Associate Professor in the Department of New Media, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lethbridge. Her work has been presented internationally in Europe, North America, and Australia through live performances, video screenings and art shows in galleries, museums, and other venues including La Triennale di Milano, Palazzo dell'Arte, Milan, British Academy at Rome, Italy, Conservatorio di Musica Benedetto Marcello di Venezia, Venice, Italy, Art Museum of Ravenna, Italy, Boston, USA, Cincinnati University, USA, and more.
