As part of the response to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action Challenge, the EDI office is pleased to host an online webinar with Dr. Shauneen Pete on 100 Ways to Indigenize and Decolonize the Academy. Dr. Pete's work has focused on culturally responsive pedagogical practices in their work toward Decolonization, Indigeneity and Interculturalism

Dr. Shauneen Pete is from Little Pine First Nation (Treaty 6 territory) on her paternal side and Cowessess First Nation (Treaty 4 territory) on her maternal side of the family. She is the eldest daughter of Eileen Pete (Agecoutay) and the late Jacob Pete. She is a mother and grandmother.

Shauneen has taught in teacher education in both Saskatchewan and British Columbia. She has also taught courses in Women’s and Gender Studies, Indigenous Studies, Leadership Studies and Higher Education. She has worked in several university leadership positions, including Vice-President Academic and Interim President at First Nations University of Canada and Executive Lead: Indigenization at the University of Regina. Her areas of research interest include the Indigenization and decolonization of Canadian higher education. Her co-authored book, Decolonizing Educational Relationships, was published in December 2023.

Shauneen is a Professor (Interdisciplinary Studies) and Chair of the Emerging Indigenous Scholars Circle (EISC) at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia.
