How to Get Involved - Students

There are lots of ways for students to get involved:

• If you already have a project and a faculty supervisor lined up, contact us to see how we can help with space, mentoring and possibly funding.
• If you have an idea for a project, either academic- or community-based, and want to find a faculty supervisor, contact us for possibilities and connections.
• If you would like to take on a research project, but don’t know where to start, we can help you get going!
• If you are planning an Independent or Applied Study in the upcoming semester, in an area that might be relevant, contact us to see if we can help you!

Depending on the research project, you may be able to get Independent Study, Applied Study, Co-op, Honour's Thesis or other kinds of credit based on your project!

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES:

U OF L COMMUNITY BRIDGE LAB AWARDS

The University of Lethbridge Community Bridge Lab offers two types of awards throughout a typical year. The number of awards given varies each year, and priority is given to undergraduate students. All awards are meant to facilitate student learning experience in qualitative and community-engaged research. All award recipients must agree to be Bridge Fellows if they are not already, and to engage in Bridge Lab events and protocols.

1. CBL Project Award ($1000)

​The CBL project award is a one-time award intended to support students undertaking a project during the University year which fits with the CBL focus on qualitative community-engaged research in Southern Alberta. Examples could include students doing a supervised applied study, independent study, or thesis-based course. The number of awards given varies each year, and priority is given to undergraduate students.

All recipients who receive a CBL project award must agree to be Bridge Fellows with lab access for the applicable semester and must engage with CBL events and training. This typically includes meetings with other fellows, and 1-4 training or event sessions per semester.

Students who have received a CBL project award in the past are eligible to apply but may be ranked as lower priority.

Application Deadlines

• March 31^st deadline (for summer and fall projects)
• September 15th (later breaking fall projects)
• November 25th (spring semester projects)

2. CBL Summer Research Award (up to a maximum of $8467)

The CBL Summer Research Award supports full-time summer research by students undertaking a project which fits with the CBL focus on qualitative community-engaged research in Southern Alberta. Ideally, this includes extensive engagement with a community organization. This fund can also provide top up funding that allows students to fully focus on community-engaged work during the summer. This means that students with some existing funding such as Chinook awards are welcome to apply for top-up funds. All recipients who receive a CBL summer research award must agree to be Bridge Fellows with lab access for the summer and must engage with CBL events and training. This typically includes meetings with other fellows, the possibility of some events, and an end-of-summer presentation about your work. The number of awards given varies each year, and priority is given to undergraduate students and students who can show evidence of having applied for other funding. Students who have received a CBL project research award in the past are eligible to apply.
