Space Management and Allocation Policy

Space on campus is and will remain one of the most valued resources we have. From flexible student study spaces to simple seminar rooms, sophisticated teaching theatres, and research laboratories, balancing the myriad of needs with the space and types of space available requires thoughtful planning.

Campus Development's role is to track and manage space allocation, assess new space requests, and make recommendations to Administration. Space is an essential, but dynamically changing and expensive resource.

Space Management and Allocation Policy
Is an institutional policy that addresses the management of all space resources and their allocation to units. The intent of the policy is to define university space resources, maximize the use of space and define who is responsible for managing space resources and the process by which space is to be fairly allocated.

The policy provides a mandate to Campus Development to periodically assess how space is allocated to specific units and provide resources to the institution to carry out this assessment work. Campus Development also maintains the master inventory of space allocations and classifications at the University. To that end, space managers present in individual units must inform Campus Development of any proposed changes to the assignment or use of existing space in advance of acting on any change to the use of the institution's space resources.
