- The recommended databases are listed in order of importance to the field of chemistry. SciFinder is used for topic, structure and reaction searching while Web of Science is used for topic and cited reference searching. PubMed is the option for searching the biomedical (including biochemical) literature and GEOBASE is useful for searching for chemical information as it relates to the earth sciences. ACS, RSC, NRC (Canadian content), Sciencedirect, Wiley Online, SpringerLink, Taylor & Francis and IEEE/IET all are publisher databases with a focus on their specific holdings of journals, some specific to chemistry and some that include chemistry. WebCSD is used for structure searching. ChemSpider is used for structure drawing. Finally, there are reference tools available online: Merck Index, the CRC Handbook, the Encyclopedia of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (eMagRes). Related databases are just that, related but not specific to the field of chemistry.
