It's always fun comparing journals describing the same event.

 

July 30, 1874

Nine miles further on (from Roche Percee) was Wood End Depot, an ominous name, which warned us to lay in a store of bread and cooked meat. as we were not to find a stick of wood in the next three days' march. Luckily we had plenty of water.

July 30, 1874

Remained all day at Wood End Depot to allow men to cook and bake 3 days rations, and secure a supply of wood for 3 days more, as it is doubtful whether we will be able to get wood for a week.
