Many early residents of the valley were former Hudson's Bay Company employees with French-Canadian Catholic backgrounds . The nuns at the mission were from Quebec. Prominent in this picture is the new church with a steeple which was built for the sisters. Reputedly the first brick building in the area no other accurate picture of it seems to exist.
