Victoria Settlement was started in 1862 as a mission for the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Two years later a HBC outpost was established to oppose free traders in the area.

The Clerk's Residence, built in 1864-65, was the focal point of the complex and is today the oldest structure in Alberta on its original location.

When we visited the site in 1974, we stopped at a little private musem nearby which was run by an old gentleman if I recall correctly. In any case it became one of my favorite museums.
