Margie Booyens
Margie Booyens is a happily married and happily retired, well-settled, well-rooted Canadian, previously a South African, having been born and educated in the Western and Eastern Cape, and having lived and worked there until 2016.
She has a Bachelors, an Honours, a Masters and a DPhil degree in Social Work.
She has worked in the fields of seniors, child and family welfare, community development and non-profit organization management.
Subsequent to 13 years of practice in the above-mentioned fields, Margie took up academic positions consecutively at two Universities in South Africa, focusing on social work and social development: lecturing at under- and post-graduate levels, supervising research, doing her own research, publishing peer reviewed articles, and presenting papers at international conferences. She was also an external examiner of courses presented by other universities, of post-graduate theses, and a reviewer for a professional journal.
After taking early retirement and emigrating from Cape Town to Medicine Hat, Canada, Margie joined Rotary, is now a Past President of the Rotary Club of Medicine Hat, and is currently a member of the Rotary International District 5360 Board and chair of the District New Generations Service Exchange Program.
She is delighted to serve on the Senate of the University of Lethbridge.
