Bill Chapman
In the summer of 1995, my wife and I moved from my hometown of Three Hills, Alberta, and I registered for the fall semester at the U of L. Deb had taken a transfer to ATB Financial in Lethbridge. A year later, I ran for a position on the Student Union Council representing the Assembly on the Board of Governors. I became the first student in Alberta to have served on any University Board for more than two years!
Since arriving in Lethbridge, I joined a number of volunteer Boards including the Chamber of Commerce where I chaired the Governmental Affairs Committee. I also joined the Rotary Club of Coaldale, Toastmasters, Chamber of Commerce, and our Parade Chair. I have played with the Prairie Dogs Futbol Club, since 1995!
Throughout my university experience, I served on GFC, Board of Governors, and Senate. During my final year at University, the Student Union conferred a Certificate of Distinction in my name, for which I am honored and indebted. In May 2001, I convocated with a BA in Political Science. Thank you to my wife Deb for supporting me during my University years.
From 2007 – 2010, the U of L Student Union appointed me to be its External Chair of the General Assembly. It was a privilege to mentor the General Assembly on matters of governance.
Currently, I serve as Councillor for the Town of Coaldale. This is a position I have held since 2007.
For fifteen years I was employed with the City of Lethbridge in their Transit department. I retired in 2021; my wife Deb, retired from ATB Financial in 2022.
As President of the Highway 3 Twinning Development Association, it was an honor to attend the government of Alberta announcement to twin the remaining 200 kilometers from the Crowsnest Pass to Medicine Hat. It is humbling to see this vital project now under construction.
Soccer has been my favorite pastime. In August 2023, I was selected to play for Canada at the World Nation’s Cup of Walking Soccer, that was hosted at Burton on Trent, England. It was the very first time a Canadian team had been created for this International Tournament. For all of us, it was an honor to wear the Canadian red, our Team placing fourth in world ranking.
