University of Lethbridge Nursing Students’ Association to present inaugural NSA Speaker Series

Monday, November 16, 2020

The Nursing Students’ Association (NSA) is celebrating Nursing Students’ Week (Nov. 15-20) by presenting its first ever NSA Speaker Series.

A virtual event, the series features evening presentations each day that explore various issues related to nursing. All sessions are open and accessible to the public.

“In this, the Year of the Nurse, the focus on nursing and nursing education has never been greater,” says Richard Camacho, president of the NSA. “As we all deal with the pandemic, the NSA is trying to find unique ways to deliver educational and engaging opportunities for our students. This is the first time we’ve tried something like this and I’m excited about its potential.”

One of the highlights of the week is Thursday evening’s session with Canadian Nursing Association President, Tim Guest.

“We’re thrilled he accepted our invitation to present as part of the series,” adds Camacho. “His perspective is greatly valued, and the fact he is taking the time to address our students shows how much he values the program we have here at the U of L and the next generation of nurses.”

He adds it is essential for health-care professionals to work together in such trying times.

“This event emphasizes the importance of collaboration with a team, one of the many cornerstones of nursing,” says Camacho. “It is amazing to have a supportive community of health-care professionals agree to come together for education. We hope that students and faculty experience the value of this event.”
