University of Lethbridge hosting Pharma/Biotech Conference

WHAT: The University of Lethbridge, with the support of Alberta Innovates, the Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, will host a one-day conference to discuss the pharma/biotech industry, its trends and how academia and industry can collaborate.

WHEN: Friday, February 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (media are invited to attend at 11:15 a.m. for interviews)

WHERE: Dr. Foster James Penny Building, 324 5th St S, Lethbridge

WHO: In addition to the U of L’s University-Industry Liaison Office and University faculty members, a prominent health-care venture capitalist, a Pfizer representative, a Calgary neuroscience biotechnology company and a non-profit accelerator/facilitator out of Edmonton will attend.

The Pharma and Biotech Conference will bring together industry, community and researchers in an effort to better understand how to translate early-stage discoveries in a fast-moving industry. The University of Lethbridge has areas of expertise in neuroscience, synthetic biology, chemistry, cancer research, proteomics and bioinformatics. It is imperative to engage with external stakeholders to best position the University’s applied research for successful translation to best serve society and solve unmet needs in health care.
