Art NOW — Dr. Ian MacLachlan

Wednesday, Oct. 2, noon to 12:50 p.m. Recital Hall, W570

Dr. Ian MacLachlan, U of L geography professor emeritus, now divides his time between Lethbridge and Shenzhen, China where he is a professor at Peking University Graduate School of Urban Planning and Design. In this talk, titled Vermeer’s The Geographer & Dafen Oil Painting Village: Art or Industry?, MacLachlin will talk about the Dafen Oil Painting Village near Shenzhen where visitors can get a self-portrait done or request a freshly painted Rembrandt.

Take Two Speaker Series

Thursday, Oct. 3, 3:30 to 5 p.m., AH100, Andy’s Place

Drs. Dawn Burleigh (education) and Cheryl Currie (health sciences) both conduct Indigenous research and have grappled with reconciliation, allyship and research relationships. Currie’s research focuses on the ways in which the social environment shapes Indigenous health in Canada. Burleigh’s research focuses on Indigenous education with specific attention paid to educator wellness, the work of teachers in the North and settler allyship.

Humans of ULeth Launch Event

Friday, Oct. 4, 6 to 8:30 p.m., Markin Hall Atrium

Humans of ULeth is a photojournalism project started last year by Richard Lee-Thai. The project celebrates the diverse stories of people at the U of L. Now a ratified club on campus, membership has grown to nine. In addition to sharing the diverse stories of people at the U of L, the club is hosting its first community building event. The theme of the event is connection and guest speakers include Dr. Sheila McManus, history professor, and Dr. Bente Hansen, music professor.
