Advisory — 2024 Lethbridge Regional Science Fair Returns to the University of Lethbridge

Friday, April 26, 2024

The Southern Alberta Technology Council (SATC), which has organized the Lethbridge Regional Science Fair and Science Olympics (i.e., Sci-Fusion) since 2002, is pleased to announce that this year’s event is to be held as an in-person event, hosted on the University of Lethbridge campus, Apr. 26-27, 2024.

The last in-person Science Fair on the University campus took place in 2019, and the group is looking forward to welcoming future scientists, engineers and so much more to the University to celebrate discovery.

On Friday, Apr. 26, participant orientation and project judging takes place. Saturday’s activities include a public project viewing, a Science Olympics activity, a keynote session with Dr. Jennifer Mather and the awards ceremony. Student-directed public viewing of the projects is open from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Participation in this event is open to Lethbridge and region grade K-12 students, with grade 7-12 projects eligible for the grand prize of representing the region at the 2024 Canada Wide Science Fair (CWSF).

SATC is excited to invite media to meet with students during Saturday’s public viewing session, the Science Olympics judging (12:30 to 1:30 p.m.), and following the awards ceremony (2 to 3:30 p.m.).

“It is great to be partnered with the University of Lethbridge for the event this year,” says Dr. Locke Spencer, SATC President and Chair in the Department of Physics & Astronomy. “It will be great to see the excitement and chaos of the first time this event is held in the new Science Commons building.”

For the past several years, SATC has been sponsored by the City of Lethbridge, University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge College, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Quantum Alberta, and many other local and regional sponsors to host the Lethbridge Regional Science Fair and Science Olympics. Information about this year’s event, the SATC organization, and its sponsors is available at www.scifusion.ca.
