Biography


I am a Professor of Economics at the University of Lethbridge in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. I am also an Affiliated Researcher at the Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy, and a Research Fellow at the Global Labor Organization (GLO). I received my Ph.D. (Agricultural and Resource Economics) from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 2006. I obtained my M.S. (Economics) and S.P.U.D. (Economics) from the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies-Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (ICAMAS-MAICh), Chania, Crete, Greece, in 2000 and 1999, respectively. I served as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Center for Research on the Economics of Agri-food (CREA) at Université Laval, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada (2005-2008), before joining the Department of Economics at the University of Lethbridge. I have been a visiting scholar at a number of universities, including the University of British Columbia, the University of Manitoba, Université Laval, and Nyenrode Business Universiteit in Breukelen, the Netherlands.

I currently serve as the Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Lethbridge. I am a Member of the Canadian Economics Association (CEA), Canadian Agricultural Economics Society (CAES), Western Economic Association International (WEAI), and Agricultural Economics Society (AES). I also served as a Member of the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics (2014-2017) and as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society (CAES) (2017-2020).

My primary fields of interest include International Economics, Development Economics, Agricultural and Resource Economics, Food Economics, and Applied Econometrics. My secondary fields of interest include Environmental Economics and Labour Economics.
