I teach Spanish at the University of Lethbridge in the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics since 2008.

My passion is to see my students doing progress in the language and getting acquainted with the Hispanic culture as part of their active learning.

All my courses are in Moodle as the most suitable pedagogical platform for students and teachers who are interested in creating nets of learning.

Intermediate Spanish (Span 1500 and 2000)
Fundamentals of Spanish Communication (Span 2100) / Conversation for non-native speakers.
Spanish for Professional Contexts (Span 3002)

Biography

Born in Medellín, Colombia, I grew up loving my family, my country, my culture and my language. I started my teaching career early on at only 18 years of age and have since experienced many incredible years of continuous learning. In Colombia, I taught children, youth, and adults in the areas of informal and formal education (all levels). I hold a Ph.D in Applied Linguistics (Spain), a MA in Linguistics, and a BA in Education (languages) and an both from the University of Antioquia, Colombia. I came to Canada in 1997 and I worked as a lecturer at Concordia University and Université de Quebec à Montreal. Since 2008, I have been a full-time instructor at the University of Lethbridge.

My main academic interests are pragmatics, second language acquisition, and didactics of languages in connection with the use of new technologies in language learning. I have recently started to conduct classroom research to improve my students' experiences and my performance as an educator. In addition, I am heavily involved in the scholarship of teaching and learning at the University of Lethbridge. I was honoured receiving the University of Lethbridge Students' Union Teaching Excellence Award in 2013.

Research Interests

My research fields of interest are: Second language Acquisition, Discourse Analysis, CALT (Computer Assisted Language Teaching), psycholinguistics, language teaching and pedagogy of languages.
