The 2022 Oral History Summer Institute
From May 12 to June 16, 2022, the University of Lethbridge’s Centre for Oral History & Tradition ran its second inaugural virtual Oral History Summer Institute. A slate of remarkable guest speakers who shared their expertise included:
Dr Lianne Leddy (University of Waterloo), Dr. Sarah Nickel (University of Alberta), and the Honourable Edna Elias (Inuit Elder from Qurluqtuq). Dr. Lindsey Dodd (University of Huddersfield). A Roundtable Discussion with Dr. Elspeth Brown (University of Toronto; LGBTQ Oral History Digital Collaboratory), Elio Colavito (University of Toronto; LGBTQ Oral History Digital Collaboratory), Dr. Valerie Korinek (University of Saskatchewan), Amelia Smith (Independent Curator and Critic at notyouraveragecistory.com), Alisha Stranges (LGBTQ Oral History Digital Collaboratory). Dr. Darren Aoki (University of Plymouth), Dr. Athena Elafros (University of Lethbridge), Dr. Tiffany Prete (Apooyak’ii) (University of Lethbridge). Selly Thiam (Senegalese- American journalist, filmmaker, radio producer and writer), and Dr. Kendra Field (Tufts University). Elaine Toth (PhD candidate UofL) led the Oral History Summer Institute.
Six Indigenous student registrants, non-credit or community members, were awarded the COHT annual tuition awards to attend the summer institute. The Mastercard Foundation provided matching funds to double donations from Carol Williams and Carly Adams.
